Chapter Color - Orange
Charter number 2058

We gather together once a month (usually the 3rd weekend of each month). The campouts start on Friday and end on Sunday. We go to a different location each month. We try to have the next function posted in the top right corner of this page, and months ahead can be found on the UPCOMING EVENTS page.
A Brief Description of the Packrats
The Packrats are a friendly group of people of all ages who
share a love of RVing or camping. We have families with babies & young
children, extended families, several retired people who come alone, couples
nearing retirement, etc., etc,. Anything you have to camp in is fine. We've had tents, trailers, pop-ups,
motor-homes, and toy haulers; just whatever.
In the Packrat chapter, we pass around a paper at the beginning
of each year with the months of the year listed. Each person or family can volunteer
to take a month and be the Wagon-master (organizer) for that month. They then
make the arrangements for the location, dates, etc. and send out flyers and/or
emails, to the other members. Some wagon-masters will choose to have a theme;
others just offer a relaxing, laid back weekend to visit together.

In the warm weather months we camp, of course. Sometimes we choose
a campground with hookups, sometimes we boon-dock in a clearing in the
mountains. In the freezing months we meet for a meal. That can be at a restaurant,
or at a member’s home for a potluck.
We usually gather midday on Saturdays for "Snackies" (hors
d’oeuvres). Then that night we have a potluck dinner. Each person or family brings
something large enough for the group to share and have a small serving. Nothing
is assigned; it just usually works out to be a good variety of foods. (Only
once did we end up with all desserts LOL). Then we sit around the campfire and
talk. Some people roast marshmallows, or make Smores. It's just a friendly,
mellow group of people who like to camp together once a month.
Valuable Information
- A new person or family must attend at least 2 events before deciding whether or not to join the chapter.
- A membership to FCRV (the national club) is required before joining a chapter.
- The national dues are $30 per year. There is an FCRV website tab near the top of this page.
- The chapter also has dues; Packrat chapter is $12 per year.
There are 4 chapters along the Wasatch Front: One chapter is a
group of retirees. There's a "Goin' Dutch" chapter that does Dutch
Oven cooking camp-outs. As for the Packrats, we specialize in relaxing, eating, visiting, and more eating. There are 4 events each year called "State-wides" where all the chapters
gather together for an event.
